Ecologist Guided Nature Walk
Old growth forest, salmon bearing streams, indigenous midens, oyster beds, estuaries, and novel European eco systems - these will be our classroom for a two hour guided walk and talk exploring the ways humans have interacted with this Island for thousands of years. We will consider how humans are intricately interwoven into the landscape, and are an integral part of the biodiversity that we cherish. After exploring ethnobotany, systems theory, climate science, and learning some new plant facts, you’ll leave with a new understanding and appreciation of your place in the world.
2 hrs - $175. The trails we will use are very accessible and appropriate for all abilities.
Ethnobotany Tea Walk and ___ Experience
Plants and humans have co-existed together for a really, really long time. Somehow, through the magic of biology, some plants taste really good, some plants heal us, and some plants do both. Ethnobotany considers the co-evolution of humans, plants, and culture. Cultures around the world have been boiling leaves and sipping them for centuries. In this ethnobotany tea walk, we will explore the local foliage, find out which ones taste good, which ones are medicinal, and which ones are both! We will learn about the principles of honourable harvest, while moving through the forest and mindfully harvesting plants to create our own unique tea blends. We’ll finish the walk by drinking our teas and reflecting on our experience.
2hrs - $175. The trails are accessible and appropriate for all experience levels.
